Little Artist Rainbow Birthday Party

Photography by Laura Aguirre

No matter how old they get, all kids love to be creative and get messy.  So when a client asked me to style her daughter’s 9th Birthday party at a local art studio, I got busy creating a rainbow colored masterpiece of my own!

Because the birthday girl is such an art lover, we knew that Smudge Studio Austin would make the perfect venue!  Smudge Studio’s philosophy is “Art Happens”, so they encourage kids of all ages to get messy by splashing, throwing, and spraying paint at your canvas using a variety of tools, helping each little artist create a totally unique masterpiece.  It’s a very cool experience.

When planning an art themed party, you can’t go wrong by choosing a rainbow color palette.  It was really fun for me to create this bright and colorful bash!

To create my backdrop, I blocked a ‘9’ off on a canvas, and then got messy myself and splashed tons of paint all over!  When it was dry, I pulled the 9 off to reveal the white number.  I had so much fun creating this!

I used silver paint cans and plastic table cloths to complete my background, creating the look of the paint falling out.  I love how it turned out!

The table was draped with white tablecloths, and I created a banner out of paintbrushes—perfectly on theme!

Our birthday girl isn’t a fan of cake, so Sweet Treet’s Bakery created an art themed brownie ‘cake’ for us, along with some mini brownie bites too.

We also served rice crispy treats on a stick, marshmallow pops, popcorn cones, and candies.  All our desserts were art themed, naturally.

After the kids had created their messy masterpieces, they also ate pizza.  So I also decorated the guest tables for the kids.

I kept my table sweet and simple, creating a centerpiece out of white flowers in mason jars with rainbow colored waters.

We added white gable boxes with party favors, colorful placemats and polka dot plates too.

For the gift table I created tall letters on sticks, so that they wouldn’t be hidden by all the birthday girl’s presents!

I used a purple tablecloth and added a rainbow banner, which helped tie my color scheme all together.

I created tags for the Gumball tubes that served as party gifts.  We also added brightly colored balloons and cute honeycombs too.  It’s the little touches that really set a party apart from the pack!

I just loved getting my creative juices flowing by styling this rainbow colored dream.  It turned out so beautifully! Happy 9th Birthday, Lexi!
