Muted Rainbow First Birthday Dessert Table

If there’s one recent trend I’ve fallen completely in love with, it might be the Muted Rainbow trend. Don’t get me wrong, I love bright and energetic rainbow colors as much as the next person, but there’s something about the soft boho feel of more muted colors that makes me feel relaxed and happy. That’s why I was thrilled to style a Muted Rainbow dessert table for a client’s daughter’s first birthday party recently. Full of calming muted colors and gorgeous organic elements, this dessert table style is perfect for birthday parties, showers, or any celebration. Read on for all of the details!

Welcome

I like to have an area that welcomes guests and sets the scene and tone for the party decor. For this party, I used a light natural wood A-frame clipboard sign, with a simple “Happy First Birthday Maila” written in white on brown paper. To emphasize the muted rainbow theme, I added a woven macrame rainbow to the corner.

Decor

Under the dessert table, I added some additional themed decor. I stacked a few bamboo storage baskets of various sizes, and added another woven rainbow. Then, in front of it, I placed some palms painted in pretty muted tones, and cardboard letters spelling out the age of the birthday girl - ONE.

On the table itself, I made sure to add a variety of natural baskets, bowls, containers, and stands, and additional woven rainbows. I also added some gorgeous blooms in soft blush colors to add to the organic look of the party. Some gauzy pink fabric added to the whimsical feel of the table.

Cake

The centerpiece of the table was a gorgeous cake from Sweet Carousel Cakes, topped with the perfect muted rainbow topper and surrounded by delectable macarons and icing dollops in matching muted colors. Gold accents and a pretty pale pink “1” on the side added elegance to the boho feel of the cake. I set it atop an overturned rattan basket for height and prominence on the table.

Desserts

In addition to the cake, I set out more delicious desserts, all fitting in with the color scheme of the party. In the front and center, I used wooden trays to display a mix of the smaller desserts, almost like a sweet treat grazing board.

Some of the desserts were too pretty to blend in, however, and deserved to stand out. So I set out a few mini stands to display a few of the amazing themed cookies from Westlake Bakes.

To add more themed elements throughout the dessert displays, I used pretty muted rainbow dessert toppers and really cute “one” lollipops from Luna Lollipops.

I also set out some stands of different sizes and heights to showcase more desserts - donuts and dark chocolate covered pretzels.

Drinks

For easy-to-grab drinks for the dessert table, we set out mini water bottles wrapped in muted rainbow labels, polka dotted straws wrapped with muted rainbow straw flags.

Accessories

The final piece to complete this dessert table is a place for the guest of honor to enjoy it all! We accessorized her high chair with a cute muted rainbow ONE banner, and some coordinating tassels. On the back of the chair, we draped a sweet personalized muted rainbow Onesie from Kiss Hug Design for Maila to wear to her party.
