This week I’m sharing a dessert table I had the opportunity to style last summer.  My friend Olga, owner of Polkadots Cupcake Factory,  was going to be serving her delicious desserts at a neighborhood block party, and wanted to present her treats on a beautifully decorated table.  I’m always happy to help out a friend, so of course I jumped at the chance.

The block party was an annual event held in one of Austin’s most prestigious neighborhoods, Pemberton Heights.  Located just minutes from Downtown Austin, Pemberton Heights is full of beautiful and historical homes. I wanted to make sure our dessert table matched the feel of the neighborhood, so I included a mixture of copper, marble, silver, with pops of coral and pink for a touch of whimsy.  I always get my inspiration for any event from one thing, this time it was definitely the color scheme. Once I had figured out what colors I would be using, everything was based on that.

The day of the block party started with a huge rainstorm, and I thought the event was going to be cancelled.  Thankfully though, the clouds parted and we were able to get everything set up without any problems.

Olga was serving a variety of treats including cupcakes, macarons, and petit fours along with lemonade.  I wanted to highlight the different desserts choices by using cake stands of different heights, colors and finishes.

I wanted to add a few table tent cards to help everyone find their favorite treats, so I asked Nathalie of Press Print Party, if she could design the food tents for me, with my color combo and she did an amazing job!

To add some texture to the table and put it over the top, I added gray fur and a tassel banner.  I asked my friend Darlene of 16 Tassels to create the tassels for our table, and she customized them to fit our color scheme.  

For even more texture, I used a mixture of different metals, like the copper cup holding the paper straws, and marble on the cake stand.  I love how the combination of our color scheme and the different textures make this dessert table feel even more upscale.

The block party lasted about three hours, and Olga’s desserts and lemonade table was definitely the hit of the party!

Even though I styled this table for a block party, it would be a perfect fit for a bridal or baby shower, or even a girl’s birthday party!
